Part 1: Gain Comfort with Your Movement
In Part 1 of the Game Speed & Skill Development Program we talk about the different types of soccer speed, and how to bring a mental focus on anticipation, recognition and reaction into your speed training. We use these examples to detail our progression for integrating quick feet agility with soccer dribbling skills. These progressions begin in our ladder, cone and pattern agility drills, and then quickly progress to applying these skills with the ball. We have also included a section on explosive strength training that will take the speed of your game to new levels.
- Integrating Skill with the 10 Types of Soccer Speed
- Quick Feet Ladder / Cone Drills
- Ball Control and Footwork
- On Field Strength/Power Drills for Speed
Part 2: Teaching Moves/Turns with Agility
In Part 2 we discuss our Functionally Integrated Training (F.I.T.) progression for teaching change of direction moves with the ball. Taught from an agility and body control perspective, we want the players to understand that is not how quickly they can make a move, fake or feint, but rather the ability to separate from the defensive player with speed once you have them out of position. This requires rhythm, body control, skill and speed. Our F.I.T. progression blends this all into easy to follow programs that build both speed and skill in soccer situations.
- Body Control and Rhythm
- Explosive Separation
- Multi-Directional Ball Skills
- Confidence in 1v1 Skills
Part 3: Passing and Speed off the Ball
In Part 3 we begin to introduce more players into the drills to develop vision, communication and off the ball movement. Using 3 different and unique teaching progressions we start with target passing and first touch, and then progress to diamond passing and reactive agility. We finish with our newest model of teaching speed, which utilizes 12 new agility patterns for speed, moves and passing. These drills are laid out in an easy to follow learning progression that leads into 1v1, 1v2 and 2v2 drills that culminate with finishing drills and small sided games for fitness and speed.
- Target Passing and First Touch
- Diamond Passing – Agility Patterns
- 1v1, 2v1, and 2v2 to Goal
- Integrated Game Speed / Fitness
Part 4: Using the Game Speed Level 1 Test
The final section of this manual, gives a complete overview of the Game Speed Testing System and shows how we organize our players into specific categories. Every team is made up of players with unique skill sets. This portion of the manual discusses how we use this test to enhance the strengths of each player, while bringing up the weaknesses of our team. This test is now being used by hundreds of coaches in over 20 countries world wide. The SoccerFIT Academy’s approach to teaching skill from a speed, body control and fitness perspective provides the physical training component that can be introduced into every practice to help elevate Game Speed.
