SKILL BREAKDOWN: ATHLETIC EMPHASIS (PASSING WORKOUTS)

Viewing things from the eyes of a coach.

It's been said, "The athlete feels, but cannot see...and the coach see's but cannot feel." That phrase has always stuck with me. I think about it every day. And it's for that reason that I am trying to bridge the gap with these "breakdown" videos to give my athletes a view from my perspective.

In this video, I breakdown one of our most fundamental athletic positioning techniques...the way we adjust our bodies to create attacking angles. This is usually a major theme in my first few sessions of the season, and something we build upon year round. It revolves around 5 major aspects:

  1. Getting the Body Behind the Ball
  2. Getting the Feet Behind the Body
  3. Creating a Forward, Attacking Lean
  4. Finding Balance with a Wide Athletic Base
  5. Opening the Hips to Attack

These aspects not only help the confident, athletic control in passing workouts, but also bleed over into other aspects like speed, agility and defensive footwork. Hope you find the video beneficial.
